Is ALI Certification Mandatory in Canada for Car Lifts?

ALI certification is a third-party automotive lift program, but it is not a universal licence required to sell car lifts in Canada. The Automotive Lift Institute confirms certification is voluntary for manufacturers unless an authority having jurisdiction requires it. Requirements may vary by province, workplace, insurer or installation.

ALI certification evaluates a lift model against the ANSI/ALI standard. CSA and ETL approvals serve a different purpose: they confirm that electrical products or components have been independently tested to applicable Canadian electrical safety standards.
